Sunlit Birthday Gift {letterpress}

I got these gorgeous letterpress note cards from my sister over the weekend. They are from Sunlit Letterpress out of Vancouver. Erin McCall is the owner and happens to write my favorite blog Adventures in Letterpress. Of course my sister knew that - she's good, but not that good! If you check out Erin's website or blog you will really see how beautiful the impressions are and how textured and soft the Crane's paper looks, but nothing is better that touching it yourself. Thanks Felicia and Erin!

Rain, rain, what the heck! {illustration}

I know it may be very hard to believe, but the National Weather Service is not always right. Take the weather prediction for February 14th, Valentine's Day (for San Diego County) - it was supposed to be a 20 percent chance of a light drizzle. Well, folks, we got hammered with crazy rain and snow in random inland areas that hardly ever see it. I know the weather here in San Diego is very boring compared to most areas, but as rare as rain is in these parts we should expect to know when it's coming! (see Logan Jenkins story) On that note, here is an illo that ran last week with a story about disability insurance. I really dislike having to put type in an illustration, but I like it in this one. Stay dry!

Be Mine {letterpress}

With all the amazing letterpress cards out there, I had the hardest time picking only one for my husband. So I picked two. One from helloLucky out of San Francisco that is fun and quirky with two kissing elephants in, of course, pink and red. And the other is a very conservative but sweet card with the perfect little "te amo" on the front and "Happy Valentine's Day" inside - from B Designs Inc. out of New England. They are both printed on recycled paper which I love, love, love.

Happy Valentine's Day {illustration}

Here is an illo I did that ran today in the science section with a story by Scott LaFee about how cardiovascular disease is different in women. I couldn't resist using a lot of pink and red - it was too much fun. Hope your Valentine's day makes you all pink and red!

Sixteen Candles {illustration}

It was my birthday today and my husband did me a kind service by only putting 16 candles on my birthday cake. I married him for a reason.

In honor of the occasion, this is an illustration I did last month for my newspaper. The story was about how some companies send their customers birthday cards and perks through the mail. If only our friends and families were as reliable as our car dealerships!

Meet Chandler! {letterpress}

This is our new baby, a Chandler & Price Platen Press we bought last month from Melanie at Lucky Paperie. Thanks, Melanie! Chandler is the reason for this blog because he is so interesting and we can't wait to get to know him better. If you don't know, he is an antique platen press used for letterpress printing. He was born around 1897, yes, he's old, but he doesn't know it - and he weighs almost 1100 pounds. Thanks to Chuck & Terry Byvik, he was delivered to our home safe and sound.
