Looking Back (U.S. Open)

Just wanted to show you the two covers for our tabloid section "Night & Day" I did for the U.S. Open. I designed them to be mirror images of each other. I think they turned out swell. (I love using the word "swell") Thanks for looking!

Custom Stationery

We made these thank you cards for a client recently and I think she loved them as much as we loved making them. I love doing blind impressions on the press (printing with no ink.) I can't stop touching the impression afterwards. It's especially hard to wait until I get all the ink off my hands before I put my fingers all over the cards. Enjoy!

Congrats, Tiger!

Well, here are the rest of the illos I did for the U. S. Open. I thought I should just post them all while the super close competition of the day and its excitement was still in the air. I'm glad Tiger won, but if things had turned out differently, Rocco would have been easy to be happy for. What a great sportsman and person Rocco Mediate seems to be. The smaller versions are how they ran in the paper with type.

History of U.S. Open

Here is the first of five covers for the U. S. Open Special sections that ran in the days preceding the start of the tournament. This section covered the history behind the Open with comparisons of what is different today - even showing a close-up photo of a 5-iron from the 1920's versus what would be used today. I had to borrow the modern day iron myself from a local store - The Golf Mart. Thank goodness they were cool about it - they were my third try. Here is the online version of the cover story.

Golf, golf and more golf!

If you are interested in what I’ve been doing the last couple of months – here it is! This is the first of 8 illustrations I did for the U.S. Open, which is being hosted at Torrey Pines Municipal Golf Course – that’s in La Jolla, California. It was a lot of work and planning on everyone’s part, but I think it came together very nicely. I’m going to include the final layout and sketches where I can so you can see some of the process and final result. It was a great project to work on, but I am glad it’s over for now. Now I can just sit back and enjoy all the great photos of the tournament we will be running in the paper from now on. Go Tiger!!!

Sandy Dollar

Here is a custom stationery order for a client. I love how the sand dollar looks. Makes me want to walk on the beach.

Happy Birthday, Dad!

I know I am a day late in wishing you a happy birthday, but blame it on the distance, or the time difference, or the weather, or me being me. But here is your birthday wish, Dad, late, but sincere as always. Thanks for being you and bringing me and my siblings into this world. Your greatest give to us all is each other. I know you had help, but you took on the challenge of raising us all with gusto. I always felt wanted and for that I thank you.
love, Daughter #4

(This illustration ran last year for a story about dreaming of relatives after they pass on. I think it also fits as me thinking of my dad - especially when I learned to ride a bike)
