New Biz Cards

We have new business cards! As many letterpress printers know, there is a lot of waste at the beginning of a job when you are setting up your plate, getting the right ink color or amount of ink, depth of impression, etc. Then there is aligning the registration of a two-color job which means more setting up of your plate, ink and impression all over again. Well, we finally figured out what to do with all the miss-prints or cards that just don’t quite make the cut – they are now our business cards! We cut down the cards to 3 x 3 inch squares and printed our information on the back. Then we cut rounded corners on them to give them a more finished look. We love to recycle, but it feels even better to re-use! It’s also pretty cool to see a little piece of our work on the back of each card. And just like Forrest said, “you never know what you’re gonna get.”

Season's Eatings

Here is an illustration I did that ran on the cover of today's Night & Day section of the newspaper. It was a fun concept which made it easy to execute. I love pumpkin pie too! It's the only dessert that I can't say no to. Check out the story online here.

Girls vs. Guys

We've been printing and packaging inventory for the holidays this month. Most of the printing is done, but the packing is taking some time. I'm loving our holiday surfers on our new recycled paper this year. They have a different texture because of the little flecks that randomly show in this paper. We did girl and guy surfer sets again this year but, since we are keeping better inventory with Quickbooks, we'll be able to keep track of which one sells better. I'm routing for the girls!

Puppy love & Converse love

Our friend, Sarah Law, is an amazing photographer. These 2 pictures were taken by her at a party recently. Those are my skinny ankles in the navy Converse sneakers and Kevin petting Lucy in black and white.

I always new Sarah was great from seeing photos she passed along from parties we've been to or projects she's done, but I finally checked out her websites. Wow, she is one talented woman! Her photo site sarahlawphotography.com is just gorgeous. She travels all over the place and you can tell. I love seeing the world through her eyes. Then, I checked out her other website mudpuppy photography and I was blown away again. It's all about the doggies! I love the term she use - "natural light photography." I never get tired of looking at my dog, but check out her site to see the portraits she's taken of the cutest canines ever. What is not to love!

Printing, Printing, Printing

We have been printing, scoring and packaging holiday cards like crazy these last few weeks. It’s always so hard to decide how many to print of each. Last year we ended up re-printing some designs twice and others we didn’t get around to. Now that our motor is working smoothly, it’s a bit easier, but it still feels like a guessing game. Next year, thanks to our accountant (sister) and her Quickbook skills, we may be able to calculate our inventory based on actual data. In the meantime we’ll print what we can and hope for the best. Keep your eye out for these designs and more to hit our online shops in the next week. If you are interested in any of our cards with a personalized message letterpress printed inside, get your requests in ASAP.
