Byvik Ink in stores now!

We have retailers! Three local stores are currently carrying our cards. Let's start with Grounded, the very cool modern garden shop on the 101 in Encinitas. Juli, the sweet and savvy owner of Grounded, was the first to give us a shot. She's located in the lumberyard across from Beachside Bar & Grill, where we like to eat, drink and watch soccer. Her shop is full of modern garden furniture, books and gifts. I love the J Schatz Egg bird feeders, Angela Adams rugs, and did I mention the great selection of books. Our birthday cards are doing great in her shop! See Grounded online at www.shopgrounded.com.

Solo, the warehouse shop in Cedros Design District of Solana Beach, is also carrying our cards. Solo has the largest selection of letterpress cards around, but her collection of books keeps me coming back for gifts over and over. Carol, the owner and buyer, stocked up on our Holiday Surfer and Holiday Surfer Girl sets which will go on sale right after Halloween. We can't wait! See info about Solo at www.solocedros.com.

India Ink Papers is our newest retailer. They are located in Little Italy near downtown San Diego. They are the place to go for custom wedding invitations and very cool stationery and paper. See them at www.indiainkpapers.com.

Not so funny face

This illustration ran earlier in the week for a story by Michael Stetz on how even clowns are having a rough in these economic times. Story here. My mother used to love painting clowns and although my family has only one of her paintings left (not even sure where that one is) I still think of her when I see a nice painting of a clown. I ran across some nice ones here and here, by Frenchman Bernard Buffet while I was looking for reference for this illustration. Make someone laugh today, it will make you feel better too.

Wedding + Baseball?

When my sister first approached me about having a baseball-themed wedding, I have to admit I was a bit dumbfounded. I thought, "how the heck can I make a classy invitation that has baseball involved?" Well, there is nothing like a challenge to bring out the creativity in someone. I think she is as happy as I am with the way the invitation turned out. That's a home-run in my book!

Street Scene

This is a fun illustration that ran last month with Street Scene 2008 that was held here in San Diego. It's a 2-day concert with a boat load of acts such as Beck, Spoon, Cat Power, Devo and such. I didn't go, but I'm sure it was fun!
